Americal Spinal Injury Association Awarded SCI researchers with 2012 Apple Award


American Spinal Injury Association (ASIA) has honored its 2012 Apple Award towards the article by Mark Nash, PhD, et al, entitled, "Safety, a tolerance, and performance of extended-release niacin monotherapy for handling dyslipidemia dangers in person along with chronic tetraplegia: a randomized multicenter managed trial." The article that was published in Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation in March 2011 is based on research performed in spinal cord injury (SCI) study centers in Florida, New York, New Jersey and California.

Dr. Nash recognized the award for the annual ASIA gathering with respect to the medical professionals. Drs. Nash, John Lewis, and Armando J. Mendez are associated with the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine, and Miami, Florida. Their own co-authors are Trevor A. Dyson-Hudson, MD, of Kessler Foundation, West Orange, CA, PharmD of Rancho Los Amigos National Research Center, NJ, MD, and Florence Yee, and Ann M. Spungen, EdD, Yaga Szlachcic, Downey, and William A. Bauman, MD, of the James Peters VA Medical Center, Bronx, NY. Dr. Dyson-Hudson recognized the various challenges to actually performing a multi-center clinical trial.
